OMG Nails 101: Nail care this rainy season

 

The "ber" months has finally began and we all know what that means, aside from the Christmas breeze and the sweet Halloween treats, it's now the monsoon season! "Pluviophiles" (a lover of rain), are definitely rejoicing with the cold drizzle and the smell of rain but heads up ladies! this is the most sensitive time for your nails. Both  your hands and feet suffer the most during the monsoon and is very much prone to different fungal and bacterial infections. Keep nails clean, healthy and shiny all throughout the year by following  these few nail care tips.
 
1) Keep them Dry

Yes, we know. How can you avoid walking into puddles when rain is inevitable? Fungal infections tends to thrive in a damp environment so make sure to avoid anything that will keep your feet dry. Invest in a good open footwear or any rainproof shoes that let air sip in keeping your feet off from moist and allowing the dirt and water to slip out.  The ideal rain footwear must be designed in a manner that water does not collect inside it. Refrain from using rain boots, leather or vinyl shoes as they tend to hold water in longer. If you have no choice and you got caught up in heavy rain on your way home, make sure to wash your feet right away and completely dry your feet upon getting in. Also make sure to clean dirty sandals or slippers especially when soaked in rainy water or flood in a long time. If you also got the time, make time to take any dirt that may got under your nails. 2) Cut them Short

Prevent dirt from getting under your nails by saying goodbye (for now) to long nails and by keeping your nails short and clean. When filing nails, make sure to not overdo it as any damage to the nail can cause chipping thus giving germs and bacteria a good environment to stay in. Keep nails short, healthy and infection-free! 3) Disinfect daily

Flood. Flood everywhere! Getting feet soaked in murky water and wearing damp shoes is a good breeding ground for bacteria and can actually cause smelly feet. Yikes! Prevent bacteria from growing into an infection by dipping feet for about 10 minutes in a warm saline solution. (Make your own saline solution by mixing salt and water then boiling it for 15 minutes). Make sure to wipe off feet after wash and dry completely. While you're at it,  how about a foot spa at home? Exfoliate feet using a foot scraper and srub them with a scrubber or pumice stone to get rid of dead skin cells.

4) Mani-Pedi Time

Nails are prone to discoloration, and might get brittle and rough during this monsoon season. So to keep your nails healthy and shiny is to have a mani-pedi session once in a week. Save time and money by purchasing the right tools for your homemade nail salon and remember these things: Avoid pushing nail cuticles during this time as nails are sensitive to infection this time of the year and to keep nails short(go back to number 2).
